Accelerated French: 1010/1020 (Fall) & 2040/2050 (Spring)

The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures offers a limited number of courses with the designation accelerated. Since twice as much material is covered over the course of the semester, it is especially important for students to be well prepared and to attend every class period.

Some procedures are slightly different for accelerated French courses:

  • An exam given at mid-semester will serve as the final exam for FREN 1010 or FREN 2040 (the first half of the accelerated course).

  • Two grades are given to each student at the end of the semester, one for 1010 or 2040 (first half of the accelerated course), and another for 1020 or 2050 (second half of the accelerated course).

  • Although the official grade for 1010 or 2040 (first half) is not given until the end of the semester, the instructor will notify students of their unofficial grade for 1010 or 2040 at the mid-semester point.

  • After the mid-semester 1010 or 2040 final is given, students whose work is below passing level (F) will not be allowed to continue in the second half of 1010/1020 or 2040/2050 accelerated.

The faculty who teach accelerated courses are very experienced and require a lot of work in order for students to cover so much material, yet they understand that this type of course is indeed unique. If you would like more information about accelerated courses, please contact Mrs. Morton (smorton@unt.edu), the Coordinator of First & Second Year French.
